Easy Install, Inexpensive Skylink Home Surveillance Systems, No Safety
One thing to keep in mind when you're looking to install security systems, it's important to put in perspective what you want to do. It also depends on your location - are you trying to install home surveillance systems or one for a business?
For home use, all you technically need is a really loud siren, something with enough noise to wake you up in the middle of the night and let your neighbors know you need help. For businesses, it's a different matter: a siren won't help, since all the other businesses will be closed, too.
Skylink declares their SC-100 model to be perfect for home and business, but from what I've seen it's not reliable enough to be anything more than one of many home surveillance systems.
That out of the way, the big question remains: will the SC-100 measure up to other home surveillance systems? Let's examine this system further.
No Sweat To Install
At around $115, the price is a major factor in purchase, as most systems retail at well over $200. The 120 decibel sound that alarms you (and anyone nearby) of an intruder is the Skylink SC-100's bare bones line of protection. You place motion sensors on window and doors, which will set off the system when movement is detected. This should scare away anyone trying to break in, and possibly any unwanted nocturnal creatures creeping around outside.
Many of the cheap systems suffer from hypersensitive sensors. The alarm will sound even if a car just passes by outside. Skylink has included a "rolling code" feature to help cut down on this problem.
Weak And Easily Removed
The Skylink SC-100 also has its setbacks. First of all, motion sensors and an alarm are literally all you are getting with this product. The inability to open your doors or windows without entering in a passcode is a definite turn-off, and can lead to mistakenly triggering the alarm even when you are trying your best to disarm it quietly. The loud noise is going to annoy the neighbors eventually.
Then there's the system's overall weak build. They're easy to locate, and as loud as the alarm is, it won't do you any good if the intruder bashes it first. They're easy to remove from the wall. There are simply too many ways it can be disabled or taken out without your ever knowing about it.
Ultimate Conclusion: Not Worth The Money
A lot of times, low cost means unimpressive products, and the Skylink SC-100 is no exception. If all you have is an alarm, that's not going to scare off the more determined intruders who are smart enough to disable your alarm system.
Why not spend a little more money and get something that will actually do what you want it to do: protect your house and its contents. Can you really put a price on the protection of your family?
