How To Buy The Best Washer And Dryer
Take Measurements
How large a set can you accommodate? Front load washer and dryers tend to be larger than conventional ones so make sure you take accurate measurements (height, depth, and width) to ensure the ones you want fit.
Compare Brands
Make a visit to all your local appliance stores to find out what’s available on the market and compare brands and features. Narrow down your options by choosing what appeals to you.
Consumer Reviews
Do your homework online and research consumer reviews of the brands and models that you like. Find out what those who have actually used them are saying – what they like and more importantly what they dislike about the product.
Select the Right Kind
Consider how you will be using your washer and dryer: how often will you use them and for what kinds of laundry? Is it just you and your spouse or an entire family that you have to do laundry for? Do you dry most of your clothes or do you often have heavily soiled loads? Take this all into consideration assessing different features including temperature settings, water level settings, energy efficiency, and load capacity.
Compare Shop
Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, do some comparison shopping to find the best prices (or to figure out which models are the best value). Make sure you establish your budget prior to shopping.
Purchase
Decide where to purchase based not only on price but delivery and whether or not you want them to haul off your old washer and dryer.

what is the best washer/dryer energy efficient machine to get?
I want to get a washer/dryer to hook up in a apartment that doesn't have hookups. I would say the washer would hook up to the sink. How would a dryer work? is it dangerous to use in a garage and where does the lint go?

If you are able to purchase a Washer and Dryer it is definitely cheaper to do so. That is unless you can wash all your clothes in one load. Most people cannot do that though. I have a Washer and Dryer but Recently went to the Laundry Mat because my mate was using the laundry and I needed my clothing done and had little time to do it. I spent $13 washing my clothes and if I were to do that every week for a year I would have bought at least a washer. If I were bargain shopping I imagine I could buy both. That doesn't include my mate washing her clothes either. So the investment is worth it.

Try going to Sears. They have many matching appliances. My mom bought a matching stove, dishwasher, and a refrigerator there..
hope this helps!

Your washer should last you at least 15 years, if not more– the dryer lasted 20!! I would just get the dryer. The only reason to buy a matching set is really just for looks, and there are better ways to spend the $600 you'll save by keeping your existing washer!!
